Jonathan Smith was educated in Wales and at St John’s College, Cambridge. For many years he was Head of English at Tonbridge School. He has written seven novels, three of which have been filmed. His critically acclaimed plays about John Betjeman were first broadcast in 2017 and repeated Christmas 2019 on Radio 4. He lives in Kent.
